School buses most commonly seat around 49 but can range in seating from 46-86 passengers. School buses are perfect for short, local trips, for low budgets like local church events or students going on field trips. They never have bathrooms on them or TV's/VCR's, and A/C's are very rare, which is why they are perfect for short trips. |
School buses can be used in some cases for a longer trip and the average price for a school bus per day is around $565.
Minibuses are typically used for airport transferring, local travel and shuttling. Some of these are used for over the road trips though and can be a cheaper way to travel with smaller groups of around 15-35 passengers. These minibuses most common seating is 24 but they do range from 17-37 people. The typical price for these minibuses are around $760 per day. Restrooms on minibuses is unusual, so you might be making a few bathroom stops. Every once in a while you will see TV's and VCR's on a minibus but not always. They do almost always have air conditioning and are at times able to make long trips.
Entertainer Coach/Sleeper/Tour Buses are the only type of bus where the gas and driver costs are included in the quote ahead of time. They have around 10-13 bunks in them and are leased mainly by musicians or celebrities for a month plus, so these are definitely comfortable. They seat around 8-13 passengers but can also seat 8-20. Restrooms are typical on entertainer coach/sleeper/tour buses, they always have TV/VCR's to watch and enjoy, air conditioners on these entertainer coaches are a given, and these can always be used for a long trip. The price for one of these on average is $1400 per day.
Executive Coach/Day Coaches seem to be typically used for one day or night trips. These are more luxurious, offering beautiful seating and tables, TV monitors you might see in home, and on board bars. These can be great for a wedding party, birthday party or bachelor party. They seat 21 people usually, but seating ranges from 17-32 on different styles. Sometimes you will find bathrooms on an executive coach/day coach but this is not a luxury you will find every time. They always have air conditioning. TV's and VCR's are almost always found and these are capable of long trips. The cost for an executive coach/day coach per day is, $1350.
A smaller version to the executive coach is the limo bus which is perfect for a date night or prom. The most common seating on limo buses is about 20 but it can range from 17 to 31. Sometimes they have a bathroom which is a great convenience to have. They are air conditioned and come equipped with TV/DVD players and can sometimes be used for a long trip. They are typically priced at roughly $1375 daily.
A trolley seats around 32 passengers. The seating range however, can vary and sometimes ranges from 31-36. These are perfect for proms, weddings, or other types of in town events. Trolleys are rarely capable of long trips, they almost never have TVs or VCR's on them. Unfortunately they do not have AC's most of the time or restrooms. If you are traveling locally this is not a big deal though. Trolleys are usually priced at about $1000 a day.
Double Decker buses seat about 65, restrooms on these are almost never seen, and they don't come with AC, TV/VCR's and are not usually used for long trips. They can be very difficult to find but they are available in open and closed tops. Insuring an open top double decker bus is a lot higher than the closed top, which makes them harder to find. The most common use for these buses is for tours and can usually be found in the larger metro markets in Canada and United States. These are priced at around $1220 per day.
Vans usually seat 10 people but can seat up to 16. They are typically used for local trips but in some cases and with some companies you can take them over the road on a longer trip. They never have restrooms on them but AC is very common. TV/VCR's are not a usual on the vans. Price per day on these vans are about $525.
You can choose which is best for your or your special occasion. Prices vary and luxuries are different on each. Recommendations may be suggested for your needs. As you can see, there are many different charter buses described.
